Pastor Josh begins our sermon series on Exodus by examining chapter 1, emphasizing that it's important to view the Bible as a single, unified story from start to finish. This perspective helps us understand God's character and plan, and also helps us see how our own stories fit into his much bigger, grand narrative.
He explains that the first seven verses of Exodus aren't just a simple genealogy, but a way to connect back to the book of Genesis. These verses show that God is actively fulfilling the promises he made to Abraham—to make his descendants into a great nation and give them their own land. Even after 450 years, the Israelites, who started with only 70 people, have become incredibly numerous in Egypt, proving that God is faithful to his word.
