Hide God's Word in your Heart

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” —Psalm 119:11

Verse memory is crucial for children (and parents, too!), but we know it's not always easy to do. Below are a few games to help make verse memory fun and easier for your kid. We all learn in different ways, so try each game to see which works best for your family!

Craft Sticks

Write the verse on one side and the reference on the other. Put the craft sticks in a jar on the dinner table. Let everyone pull a stick from the jar and say the memory verse.

Word Wipe Out

Write out the verse and reference on a whiteboard with each word underlined. Everyone say the verse aloud. Then erase 1 to 2 words at a time and say the verse aloud again. Repeat these steps until every word has been removed and you can say the verse aloud without the words.

Clap-a-Word

Display the verse on a piece of paper. Say the verse together a few times. Then have one volunteer leave the room (or turn his back). Have another volunteer point to one word from the verse so the others can see it. Then the first volunteer returns to the room, but is not allowed to see the verse displayed. The group says the verse, but claps on the selected word without saying it. The first volunteer says which word was skipped. If he gets stumped, let him look at the verse display. Take turns clapping on various words.
