Discuss Virtues as a Family
Family Virtues
Talking about virtues with your children can be a difficult subject to make engaging. Below are two tips to help you discuss virtues with your children:
1. Choose Family Virtues
We can all agree that any virtue is valuable, but you may have a few virtues that you want your family to model well.
Choosing family virtues is like picking the best ingredients for a family recipe. It’s all about figuring out what good qualities you want to be known for, like kindness or honesty.
We suggest going through our Foundations guide and choosing one or two virtues that you want your children to exemplify and focus on those in your conversations.
2. Find a real-life example
A great way to teach virtues is to point to real-life examples, someone like your child's soccer coach or his favorite teacher, and say, “See how patient they are? That’s what we’re aiming for.”
It makes it easier for everyone, especially the kids, to understand what these virtues look like in real life.
