Healthy Phone Habits

How can you make progress as a family in healthy use of technology?

In today's world, where technology is deeply woven into the fabric of our lives, cultivating healthy habits around its use is crucial—especially within the family unit.

This page is dedicated to providing you with practical tips and resources to foster a balanced and enriching digital environment in your home, allowing your family to thrive—both spiritually and emotionally. From establishing mindful smartphone practices to building transparency and open communication, we'll explore ways to strengthen connections and prioritize meaningful interactions amidst the allure of the digital world.

Discover helpful resources such as books, articles, and practical guides to support your family's journey toward a healthier and more fulfilling relationship with technology.

4 steps to better family phone habits:

  1. Phones “go to bed” before you do, and you “wake up” before phones do.
    • Park them somewhere other than bedrooms for the night. Make it a habit to not grab the phone first thing in the morning.
  2. Establish “phone-free areas” for your entire family
    • i.e. bedroom, dinner table, car, etc.
  3. Use technology for togetherness, not isolation.
    • Take a day to notice how you and your family are using technology. Is it primarily creating more isolation and alone time, or is it used for shared activities that bring people together?
  4. Aim for transparency and trust.
    • Know each other's passwords. Don’t view it as “your phone”, but a family device which can be accessed by other family members at any point.
